We met Kati & Jason at the winter Wedding Planner and Guide show and are excited to be shooting their New Years Day wedding (though it means not celebrating too much the night before). After a busy spring and summer for everyone, we were able to meet up for their engagement session at the Memorial Union and make a quick stop at Olin Park for a few shots with the Madison Skyline. Kati & and Jason were both naturals in front of the cam and we had fun hiking through the woods on the lake shore trying to find a short cut back to the Boat House area. I had a first, though, while we were shooting with the Union Chairs on the Terrace. A guy road by on his bike and stopped. I could sense he was watching closely over my shoulder as I gave direction to the two of the them sitting in the bright Union chairs. When we were just about done the guy stopped us and and proceeded to tell Kati that she would make a really great mermaid. I don’t think anyone really knew what to say. After a moment of awkward silence he proceeded to explain that he needed a mermaid for a parade, that his former mermaid had cut out on him leaving his float mermaid-less. After a bit of attempted negotiations on his part Kati politely said she’d think about it. So definitely a first, I’ve never had anyone ever interrupt a shoot I was doing to ask a client to dress up as a mermaid for them. Kati didn’t do it, though it probably would of been a good thing to have on her resume. Below are a few of our favorites, we had a terrible time narrowing down the proofs. – Derrick
