With their September wedding just around the corner, we met Heidi & Brett outside Allen Centennial Gardens on campus and found our way shooting up the lake shore and Observatory drive from there. It wasn’t quite golden hour, yet the sun was beginning the last leg of it’s decent toward the western horizon. We found ourselves alone, for the most part, in Allen and worked through some of the various backdrops and structures the garden has to offer. A lot of new planting and work was underway, so we had to step around the pots of ready to be planted flowers and plants and recently worked up bare soil. In the end some of my favorite shots of theirs came from the front porch of the former residence of the Dean of Agriculture, that towers above the rest of the site. Heidi & Brett led us to the lake where we made quick use of some docks and beautiful blue skies. A handful of UW students, out for a swim on this hot day, looked on from another pier next to ours. The surrounding dorms made interesting backgrounds and we found ourselves shooting in front of Washburn Observatory before finishing with the scenic outlook next to Elizabeth Waters Hall. Heidi and Brett are a great, easy going couple who we’re thrilled to be working with and look forward to help documenting all that will unfold on their wedding day. – Derrick
