She’s Home-
The phone rang, I managed to hear it from across the house and over the sound of the vacuum cleaner, I sprinted into the bedroom to answer it on its last ring. “Are you still missing your dog,” the voice on the other end asked. “Yes,” I reluctantly said, not sure if I was about to hear bad news about our missing four legged child or the kind of news that miracles are made of. “Well, I think she is standing right in front of me,” the voice answered back. By this time my heart was racing, practically pounding out of my chest, she had been missing for the last 48 hours! We had searched for her none stop from sun up to sun down. We had handed out “Missing” signs to everyone we could, hung signs from the stop signs, yelled out our back door until our voices were gone, and trudged through the woods for miles and miles searching and hoping. And now the voice on the other end was telling me that she was standing right there in front of her, and looked like the dog from the missing poster. Derrick left right away. I think I was in disbelief that it would really be her, as I stood on our front porch with the boys in my arms and our fingers crossed tight as could be, we waited for Derrick to get back from seeing if this “found” dog was actually ours. As he pulled up the driveway I caught a glimpse of her in the back, and saw Derrick turn to tell her she was home. There she was!. “It’s really her.” I kept saying to Derrick as tears came down my face. She was one of our first “kids” prior to having Koeplin and Kohen, and it’s been hard to consider not having her as part of our family these last few days. We can’t be happier that she made it home safely, though not unscathed as she has two solid battle wounds that only hint to the horror that she must of gone through. The large gashes on her side and back back were most likely caused by a barbed wire fence, but the Vet said that since they were nearly 48 hours old that stitches at this point may not be the best thing for the healing process. So we’ll be tending to her wounds. We can only imagine what she went though. Thank you so much to everyone who has been so understanding these last few days as we have been out of the office unexpectedly.
I know that Pfiefer is absolutely exhausted as she’s really done nothing but sleep and sleep. I can’t wait to sleep peacefully tonight too, knowing she is back home with us!
